Portfolio status
Local area planning academic project
Location
Durga Nagar, Bhopal, India

Project overview

Housing, movement and livelihoods are planned as one neighbourhood system.

The study begins with the settlement's existing social anchors, religious places, gathering areas and cultural skills. It identifies the practical barriers created by dense housing, poor access, limited amenities and the loss of dedicated space for making and selling work.

The proposal combines modular homes, workshops, display and market areas, green pockets, improved streets, children's spaces and parking. The aim is to support dignified living conditions while keeping craft production visible and economically connected to the city.

Design priorities

Three ideas carried through the proposal.

01

Community memory and existing social anchors guide the layout.

02

Housing and workshops support domestic life and artisan livelihoods together.

03

Movement, green pockets and shared facilities improve neighbourhood access.
